I graduated in Biotechnology at the University of Padova and obtained a PhD in Molecular Genetics applied to Medical Sciences at the University of Brescia.

 

Research activity

After the PhD, I moved as a post-doctoral researcher to the Semel Institute for Neuroscience and Human Behavior (University of California, Los Angeles - UCLA), where I focused my research activity on genetics of neurodegenerative disorders and gained a solid expertise in samples preparation and data analysis for several Next Generation Sequencing (NGS) techniques. 

Since 2014, I have been working at The Foundation of the Carlo Besta Neurological Institute IRCCS in the Medical Genetics and Neurogenetics Unit and my activity is focused on elucidating the genetic basis of mitochondrial dysfunctions, through the use of combined approaches of NGS techniques (such as customized gene panels, Whole Exome Sequencing, RNAseq, long-read NGS) and bioinformatics analysis with the goal of identifying disease causing mutations and biological pathways alterations associated with the pathogenesis of mitochondrial diseases and other neurodegenerative disorders.
