BIOLOGIST
SC Neurologia 3 - Neuroalgologia
(italian version)

I hold a degree in Biological Sciences that I obtained in 1999, after which in 2000 I acquired the qualification
to practice Biology at the University of Milan. I continued my training in the field of scientific research on peripheral neuropathies, winning an European scholarship (ENS) in 2001 at the University Hospital Basel.

Research activity

Since 2000 I have been carrying out diagnostic and research activities at the IRCCS Carlo Besta as a Scholarship holder and, subsequently, as a Contractor. Since December 2019 I am a Biologist hired on a fixed-term basis in the health research sector.

I coordinate the diagnostic and the research activities in the context of peripheral pathologies affecting small fibers: processing and evaluation of skin biopsy specimens for the quantification of intraepidermal nerve fibers, investigation of somatic, autonomic and myelinic nerve fibers, with immunohistochemistry and immunofluorescence tecniques and image analysis in different neurological diseases.

I have been co-leading the international quality program on intraepidermal nerve fiber density assessment.
I supervise early carrier scientists entering the field of peripheral pathologies and their training and work in the Laboratory of Skin Biopsy.

I manage the laboratory duties and actively participate in clinical trials and numerous research projects in the field of peripheral pathologies and neuropathic pain, collaborating with various study groups at national and international level.

Topics of interest

  • Peripheral neuropathy
  • Pain
  • Skin biopsy
