Research activity
My research is directed to study the histopathological findings in brain tissue obtained during epilepsy surgery from patients with drug-resistance focal epilepsy. My main focus is address to investigate the neuropathological aspects of the Malformations of Cortical Development (MCD), in particular the Focal Cortical Dysplasias, in order to ameliorate the diagnostic process, to better understand their association with early onset focal epilepsy and surgical outcome failure. Moreover, understanding the alterations that characterized these malformations and the basic mechanisms that promote the intrinsic epileptogenicity of such MCD might, eventually, promote the development of target therapies.
Topics of interest
- Epilepsy surgery
- Neuropatology
- Focal cortical dysplasia
