In 2006, I graduated in Medical Biotechnology and Molecular Medicine at the University of Milano and in 2010 I obtained my PhD in Translational and Molecular Medicine at the University of Milano-Bicocca. In December 2022 I completed the school of specialization in Clinical Pathology and Clinical Biochemistry (University of Pavia).

Research activity

Since 2007, I have been performing several research activities at Istituto Besta that are focused on the study of the molecular mechanisms underlying several neurodegenerative diseases, including Alzheimer's disease, Parkinson's disease, atypical parkinsonisms, transmissible spongiform encephalopathies, frontotemporal dementias, amyotrophic lateral sclerosis and dementia with Lewy bodies.

From 2011 to 2013, I carried out my postdoctoral research activities in the United States, at the University of Texas Health Science Center (Houston), where I was in charge of the biosafety level 3 (BSL3) laboratory and I had the opportunity to develop and optimize cutting-edge diagnostic technologies for neurodegenerative diseases.

Since 2014, I have been coordinating a research team at Istituto Besta that is mainly dedicated to the development of innovative and highly sensitive technologies for the early diagnosis of neurodegenerative diseases using easily collectible tissues, including urine, blood, tears, skin and olfactory mucosa. In my professional career, I have created a dense network of national and international collaborations and I have obtained numerous grants to support my research (Ministry of Health, MIUR, Michael J. Fox Foundation, Alzheimer's Association, EuroNanoMed, JPND).
